Yes, I bought more yarn

Welcome to my weekly ramblings on my knitting and crochet projects At the weekend I went to the Glasgow School of yarn event and found some really interesting yarn. From plant dyed to flock specific yarn and dear view I bought yarn. Find out what in this weeks Wednesday Wip

Things are getting pink and stripy

. In both my crochet and knitting classes we will be using variegated yarns to jazz up our projects. There are so many yarns to choose from and they really do make working in colour easy. No changing yarns and no weaving in ends!

I'm wearing a cardigan in variegated yarns but it is so old I can't remember what I used. I do know that this is a Rowan pattern.

I bought some of the new self striping yarn from West Yorkshire Spinners. They have just bought out a range inspired Zandra Rhodes. They are very pink and this is the least pink I could find.

Don't forget my next steps in Crochet and next steps in knitting start in early November so if you want to sign up please let me know.

Cabling my way to happiness

This week I finished a lovely cable hat. I started it on Friday and it was finished by Monday. I knitted using some yarn I bought on holiday on the Isle of Lewis appropriately named Wool 4 Ewe. The shop is in the middle of Stornoway and I just had to go in!

I was immediately drawn to the undyed yarn in the middle of the shop. The owner, Jackie, explained that the yarn came from sheep farmed on her croft. She had a variety of yarn from 4 ply to aran and a variety of mix of wool but all undyed. I chose the DK made from a mix of Hebridean wool and Cheviot/bluefaced Leicester cross wool. It is quite dense but lovely an warm and the Hebridean is water resistant so just what you need for a hat.

The pattern is by Juliet Bernard, published in The Knitter, and is a lovely mix of cables with a rather nice crown design.

I love doing cable work. When I first started doing it the patterns were written out row by row. Nowadays patterns include helpful charts which I find useful.

If you haven't tried cables then a hat is a good project to start with. If you'd like me to teach you then come to my Next steps in Knitting course starting on the 4th of November. Message me if you are interested. Now I have to get back to my Christmas knitting projects.

Squishing my yarn and planning my projects

Welcome to my weekly ramblings on my knitting and crochet projects. I've been going through my holiday purchases and planning what to do with them. In Kingussie I bought some lovely sock yarn locally dyed and some 4 ply North Ronaldsay yarn dyed in Scotland. The colours are amazing In the way to Ullapool I popped into Ripplescraft near Lochinver. She has some beautiful colours and I bought 4 skeins of green merino for a crochet top and some sock yarn. In Stornaway I bought a lovely ball of hebridean mixed with Cheviot/bluefacedleicester yarn and I will enjoy making a hat with this.

Some thing blue, something cute.

Welcome to my weekly ramblings on my knitting and crochet projects. My knitting project for this week, and quite a few more, is a lovely stranded knitted jumper for Mr W's nephew who will be 40 in December. The pattern is Heaney from Rowan 66 magazine. I'm using Rowan Felted Tweed, a lovely mix of wool, alpaca and viscose. So soft and easy to knit with. I promised you cute last week, well here it is. A colourful granny stitch cardigan for a special little girl for Christmas. I'm using Catona, pure cotton from Scheepjes. It has really good stitch definition, which means you can see the stitches easily. I'm looking forward to starting my knitting and crochet courses in October which are now full. Wohoo. If you can knit or crochet and would like to increase your skills have a look at the 'next steps. courses for knitting and crochet starting in November. A good way to try new skills and get some inspiration to improve your projects. See you next week.

Unexpected sunshine for my post walk knitting

Welcome to my weekly ramblings on my knitting and crochet projects. This week Mr W and I have been walking the Pembrokshire coast around Newport and jolly nice it is too. While I was away I started knitting Heaney by Arne and Carlos from the 66 Rowan Magazine. I'm using Rowan felted tweed, a lovely mix of wool, alpaca and viscose. This project is for Mr W's nephew who will be 40 in December so I should have plenty of time to finish this.
